Supporting Autism in the class room

Introduction:

Education is a fundamental right for every child, irrespective of their abilities or disabilities. For parents of children with special needs, such as autism, ensuring access to quality education becomes a primary concern. They often question whether their child can learn the normal syllabus and whether enrolling them in a special school is necessary. In this blog, we aim to address these concerns and shed light on the key aspects of providing education to children with autism.

Embracing Individuality:

Autism is a spectrum disorder, wherein cognitive levels and skills vary among children. However, children at any point on the spectrum can benefit from studying alongside typically developing peers. By offering them opportunities to learn and grow with their peers,

children with autism can better adapt to social situations and build essential life skills. It is important to recognize that their educational journey is not solely about academic brilliance but about fostering an inclusive and well-rounded development.

In the Indian context, finding schools that provide inclusive education for children with special needs can be a daunting task for parents. Inclusive education requires certain arrangements, such as Individualized Education Program (IEP) plans, supportive teachers, and trained special educators.

Unfortunately, the scarcity of such schools often leaves parents feeling helpless in their pursuit of a suitable educational environment for their child. Additionally, finding a shadow teacher who can provide personalized support becomes a challenge for many families.

Jeevaniyam Ayurveda’s Mission:

Recognizing these challenges, Jeevaniyam Ayurveda  in association with Saraswathy Vidyanikethan has undertaken a noble mission to provide inclusive education for children with special needs. As a stepping stone towards this mission, we have initiated the enrollment of pre primary students in our facility.

Jeevaniyam Ayurveda has been thoughtfully designed the sensory rooms, remedial intervention areas, and inclusive play areas in the school. These provisions create an environment where children with autism can learn alongside their typically developing peers, fostering social adaptability and skill enhancement.

At Jeevaniyam Ayurveda, our inclusive education plan goes beyond traditional academics. We believe in integrating various therapies and routine treatments to provide holistic development for children with autism. Our team of dedicated professionals,

including therapists and special educators, work hand in hand to ensure individualised attention and care. By incorporating therapies such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, and behavioural interventions into the curriculum, we aim to cater to the unique needs of each child.

Benefits of Inclusive Education:

Inclusive education offers a myriad of benefits for children with autism. It promotes social interaction, enhances communication skills, and cultivates a sense of belonging. Through collaborative learning experiences, children develop empathy, acceptance, and a greater understanding of diversity. Inclusive education not only empowers children with autism but also fosters an inclusive society that embraces differences.

Conclusion:

Education is a transformative tool that can empower children with autism to lead fulfilling lives. By providing inclusive education, we ensure that children with special needs have equal opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. Jeevaniyam Ayurveda’s commitment to this cause serves as a beacon of hope for parents who strive to secure a bright future for their children. Let us join hands and create a society that embraces inclusivity and celebrates the unique potential of every child.
