Autism is not a disability, it is a different ability”- Stuart Duncan.

Autism is a condition characterised by weakened social and communication skills, repetitive behaviours and unique strengths and weaknesses. Medically termed autism spectrum disorder, it is caused due to neural disorders. The psychiatric nature of the issues makes autistic children different from the normal ones in social behaviour and cognitive ability.

Autism is prevalent in the world today with 1 in every 60 people being differently blessed. It is mostly detected in children between the age of 2 and 3 years, though in some cases they are detected as early as by 18 months. Studies have shown that boys have five times more probability to be autistic than girls. Early intervention can help these children deal with today’s hectic world more easily.

My Child, My Pride is an initiative launched for autistic children to increase their self-reliance in dealing with everyday life. The program is launched with the aim of educating the parents of autistic children, to mentor the children into being self-dependent. With a motto ‘No expert doctors than parents for autistic children, the initiative consists of training programs by specialists in paediatric and psychiatric health from Kottakal Ayurveda College.
